Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do-It-Yourself Book is an activity book created by American author and game designer Jeff Kinney.

This book is divided into two sections: an activity section and a "What's Your Story?" section, allowing the reader to write their own journal at the end of the book. The hardcover version of the book features 16 pages of full-color comics in the middle of the book, between the two sections (32 in the updated version).

The cover and title were revealed on September 18, 2008 via Kinney's Blogger site.

It was published by Abrams Books through their imprint, Amulet Books.

Description

This is your book now, so technically you can do whatever you want with it.

Make your own Wimpy Kid stories and comics, list your fave things and your totally awesome practical jokes, and keep your own journal. Just make sure you don’t write down your ‘feelings’ in here. Because one thing’s for sure: this is NOT a diary.

MAKE SURE YOU PUT THIS BOOK SOMEPLACE SAFE AFTER YOU FINISH IT. WHEN YOU’RE RICH AND FAMOUS, THIS THING IS GOING TO BE WORTH A FORTUNE.

Content

Most of the book is filled up with interactive activities that include quizzes, personality questions, mazes, and drawing. It features several comic strips like Gregory's "Creighton the Cretin."  "Lil' Cutie is also featured. Many characters are mentioned in the book, mainly Greg HeffleyRowley Jefferson, and Fregley. In the back of the book, there are blank, lined pages with random characters in the corners, intended for you to write your own content. You can write a novel, draw, or do many other things. There are some things that have not been seen in other books such as The Fart Police, (a comic made by Greg), Lyrics of Diper Overlöde and Zoo-Wee-Mama Comics. Two pages feature activities by Rodrick. Activities by Rowley Jefferson and Fregley also appear in the full version.

Trivia

  • There is a version where the cover is red instead of orange, but other than the color, the book is exactly the same. It is the paperback version of the original Do-It-Yourself Book.
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book is the only book where Greg is smiling on the cover.
  • Rodrick's maze actually cannot be completed, the way to do it is to just go around the maze.
  • In September 2008, a Do-It-Yourself contest was held, where you had to write your own comic. The winner of the contest either got a visit from Kinney to their school, or had their family drawn how Greg Heffley would.
  • Greg's letter for Rodrick and Lyndsey's breakup seems to be recycled from the 250th Igdoof strip, only with swapped roles.
