According to Greg Heffley Ellie used to be a fully attached stuffed plushie before its body parts were chewed off by Sweetie. Greg now refers Ellie as a boring stuffed bowling pin.

In the online book, Aunt Cakey buys Ellie for Rudy. Greg once threw Ellie at Rudy's head while he was standing there. On a trip to Aunt Cakey's house, Greg got so bored that he used Ellie for a game where he would see how far up he could throw her.[1]
Rodrick Heffley decides to put Ellie in the front passenger seat to have an excuse to not let Greg sit there when he came to pick him up.[2]
